Ricardo Avilez-Blanco, 27, has been arrested in connection to a series of reckless driving incidents involving members of the Leesburg Police Department in October while posing a threat to the public.
The long day for officers began at around 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14 when they attempted to stop a speeding white Camaro, which took off on East Market Street before stopping in the area of Heritage High School.
When approached a second time, Avilez-Blanco again sped away and in both instances, police opted not to pursue to protect public safety.
The following morning at around 1 a.m., officers spotted the same Camaro unoccupied in a parking lot in the 700 block of Fieldstone Drive NE, and they seized it for evidence.
During the investigation, Avilez-Blanco was identified as the driver, and a warrant was issued on Saturday for multiple felony offenses. He was indicted on Monday by a grand jury and the department announced the charges on Tuesday.
Avilez-Blanco, who has no fixed address, was charged with:
- Hit-and-run causing injury;
- Eluding;
- Malicious wounding;
- Destruction of property;
- Assault;
- Recklless driving.
Avilez-Blanco is being held behind bars on unrelated charges in Arizona. He is now waiting to be extradited and brought back across the country to face the charges in Loudoun County.
